Ann Blanchard Carter of Factoryville, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 21 at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit. Born on Feb 2, 1935, in Scranton, Ann was the daughter of the late Elease Weinss Carter and Royce Carter and resided in Scranton for many years; in 1957 the family moved to Factoryville. While growing up, Ann enjoyed spending summers at their family cottage at Lake Winola, PA. Ann was a graduate of Scranton Central High School 1952 and Hood College, Frederick, MD where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, 1956. Following college, Ann lived in Maryland with her great aunt, Mary Secor and later moved to Weatherford, TX, to spend time with her half-sister, Mary Carter Cole. She then returned home to be with her parents In 1970 she completed requirements for the PA Department of Education Certification for Public Librarianship. Ann was employed by the Factoryville Library for many years and there developed one of her favorite past times of reading novels. As a resident of Abington Manor for about seventeen years, Ann became an avid user of the Book Mobile during the years when it was available. On any given week, you would find at least 2 new books on a table in her room. In 2010, Ann completed training/educational requirements from Lackawanna County Office of Ombudsman through Serving Seniors, Inc. and became a designated “P.E.E.R” Resident Contact” for facility residents. Ann always had a wonderful smile on her face and was known for her wry sense of humor and so enjoyed being around many people. She was confined to a wheelchair for 24 years due to foot and leg impairments and never, ever complained. While at Abington Manor she was an active participant in the facility’s daily activities ranging from bingo to a variety of puzzle and word games and a majority of times would always come up with winning answers. She also enjoyed going out to various events with other residents as well as going to the Howell’s home for dinner especially during the holidays. Ann’s caregivers, Carol and David Howell would like to thank all the staff of Abington Manor for their wonderful care of Ann and a special thanks to the Activities team who always ensured Ann was participating in their daily events. Appreciation is also extended to Compassionate Care Hospice for their support and kindness during the last month. A special thanks to cousins and friends for always remembering Ann with holiday, birthday or other type greeting cards which she so enjoyed receiving and which were always posted on her bulletin board. Ann is survived by niece, Mary Foster, husband Malcolm, son Andrew, of England and cousin Kay Voda and husband Ted, Micco, Florida. Ann was preceded in death by half-sister, Mary Carter Cole in 1960 and an aunt, Evelyn in 1997 who cared for Ann at her home after her parents’ death. Ann was a member of the Hyde Park Presbyterian Church and sang in their choir. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4 from 5 to 6 pm at the Anthony P.
