Carl Albert Gable, husband of the late Catherine Gable of Tunkhannock went to his eternal home April 2, 2018 at The Wesley Village, Pittston after battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  He was born Dec. 13, 1931 to the late Albert and Margaret Gable.

 

Carl graduated from Tunkhannock High School with the class of 1949.  He met his wife of fifty years, Catherine Rodgers of County Mayo Ireland while working in a New York City bakery.  He served in the Korean war with the Army Special Operations with the Airforce stationed in England.  He graduated from the American Institute of Baking, Chicago, Illinois and returned to marry Cathy in 1959, the same year they moved to Tunkhannock and started Gable’s Bakery.

 

For nearly 45 years he and his wife were part of life on main street Tunkhannock. His church home was the Tunkhannock Assembly of God Church where he served as a teacher, leader, musician and woodworker.  His devotion to community led him to service as a township supervisor.

Neighbors, friends, family and community will remember his childlike faith and love which he shared each year at his home’s Christmas display.

 

He leaves behind his children Eileen (Chicago, Ill.), Alice (Tunkhannock), Paul and Dominique with grandchildren Joshua (USNA) and Cybelle (Signal Mountain, Tenn.), and Jonathan and Jennifer with grandchildren Caitlyn and Emmeline (Fairfield, Conn.). Brothers  Donald and his wife Violet (Midland MI) Arthur and his wife Fran (Tunkhannock); and Sister Rosemary Mann and her husband Ralph (Stockbridge, GA).  He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, grandniece, and grandnephews.

 

Visitation will be held at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock on Sunday, April 8th, from 5-8 p.m. Services will be from the Tunkhannock Assembly of God Church 181 N. Bridge St., Tunkhannock, PA on Monday, April 9th at 11 a.m.

 

Carl’s family would like to thank the staff at the Tunkhannock Methodist Manor, Wesley Village and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their loving care and support.  Carl truly enjoyed his time with you.
