Charles H. Davis, 81 of Leraysville Rd. Rome,Pa died Friday at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on January 30, 1933, the son of the late Samuel Rosser and Amella Hess Davis. Charles was married to the former Roberta Doll of Kingston for 56 years. Charles was a 1951 graduate of the Beaumont High School and attended Bloomsburg University and was appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Piont, NY, where he graduated with a BS degree in marine Transportation and a 3rd Mates License Over the years he worked up to a Master (captain) in the Merchant Marines and was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. While on active duty he was commanding offices of the US Naval Reserve Training Center Wilkes Barre, Pa. Over the years he sailed throughout the world on both tankers and bulk freighters and he was involved in the Gulf War. He also earned a masters degree in Geography from Suny Binghamton University. He taught physics and Earth Science at Wyalusing High School and he taught chemistry and earth science in Binghamton, NY. He was also involved with the Calhoon MEBA engineering school for officers upgrading their licenses. Charles was an extra class radio amateur, conversationally adequate in Spanish, enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, and was especially proud of his homemade Chili and Squirrel Stew. He also had a very caring and generous heart. In addition to his parents Charles was preceded in death by his daughter in law Christel Davis. He is survived by his wife Roberta, sister Priscilla and husband William Perry of Orange, Pa, twin brother Thomas and wife Susan Davis of Beaumont, Pa, and a brother George William and wife Jean Davis of Indianapolis. Children; Charles T. Davis of Massena, NY, Robert H. Davis of Rome, Pa, Raymond Arthur Davis of Mansfield, Pa. Grandchildren; Timothy Reissman and wife Megan of Chicago, Kristen Davis of Boston, Stefanie Davis of Massena, NY, Zachary Davis Massena NY, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday Oct. 30th at 10am from the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock with Pastor David Pitcher and Margaret Clark officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-7pm Wednesday. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at the Wellsboro Cemetery.
