Foster C. Sankey, 89, of Factoryville, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 21, 2024. Born on
January 2, 1935, in Reedsville, Pennsylvania to the late Foster J. and Katherine Sankey, Foster’s
life was marked by a large extended family and commitment to his civil engineering profession.
He had a wry sense of humor and quiet demeanor.
Foster, a retired professional civil engineer, attained his BS degree at Drexel Institute of
Technology in 1959 and MS degree at Penn State University in 1970. His long career was
devoted entirely to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, first in their R&D
Department in Harrisburg and then as a senior bridge engineer serving District 4 in northeast
Pennsylvania. He served briefly in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant after his graduation
from Drexel. He also was a member of Factoryville Masonic Lodge #341, serving as Worshipful
Master in 1990.
Raised in Reedsville, Pennsylvania, Foster had a passion for the outdoors and sports. He found
special joy in fishing and hunting in the local fields and mountains. He was a loving husband of
22 years to his beloved wife, Susan B. Sankey, and father to John Sankey (sp. Dr. Robin
Fillmore), Dr. Donald Sankey (sp. Irene Sankey), Dr. Suzanne Sankey (sp. Ramon Olender) and
Diane Sankey. After the death of Susan, Foster married a second time to Winifred Sankey (now
deceased) and father to Michael Sankey. His six grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Samantha,
Alison Corey and Shelby, and six great-grandchildren have created a legacy that will endure
through generations.
He is preceded in death by his sisters Margaret, Katherine and Helen. Foster is survived by
numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 2:00 until
4:00 p.m. at Anthony P. Litwin Funeral Home in Factoryville, Pennsylvania, which will be
followed by a memorial service held at 4:00 p.m. A small graveside service attended by
immediate family will be held on November 11, 2024. The Sankey family would like to express
their sincere gratitude to Michele Jacoby for her exceptional care and support provided to their
father over his last years of life. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him and had the
privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
