Francois “Frank” Geerts, a resident of Lake Sheridan, Pennsylvania, formerly of Antwerp, Belgium, died peacefully at home on Monday, February 8th, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer and other health issues. Currently living is wife, Kathryn Geerts, to whom they would have celebrated 30 years of marriage in July.

Born in Antwerp, Belgium, he moved to Brooklyn, NY, at the age of 15. He went to work for the Town of Islip, NY, and attended the police academy and became a Sergeant in Suffolk County, NY Police Department. He moved to Pennsylvania in the early 1980’s and graduated from Lackawanna College Act 120. He was instrumental in developing Lackawanna County S.W.A.T. and a lifetime member of F.O.P LODGE #63. Frank was employed by Factoryville Police Department as the Chief of Police for many years until he retired in 2006.

Survived by wife Kathryn Geerts and son Michael, Lake Sheridan and faithful dog, Steele. Stepdaughter Kim Bowman and husband, Dave, Meshoppen. Their children, Jessica Deacon and husband, David, and daughter Leona, Nicholson. Jonathon Bowman and fiancé Lindsay Bergey, Clarks Summit. Stepdaughter, Julie Wasilewski, Nicholson. Stepson, Joseph Wasilewski and wife Brittany, grandchildren; Joseph, Kinslee and Paislee, Nicholson.

Also surviving are three daughters Jeanine, Veronica and Daniella.

Frank was an avid outdoorsman with his son, Michael, whether they were on a quad ride or sitting in the woods hoping to get a deer or having a fire in the backyard. Frank loved spending time with his son no matter what they were doing. He also loved his time on the beach with grandson Joey, and also loved wrestling on a Sunday afternoon to see who was stronger although grandpa always let him win. Also, on any Sunday afternoon, you could find Frank sitting in his chair with granddaughter, Kinslee, watching videos and eating snacks. Grandpa never turned down a snack from his girl. Frank also loved taking Sunday afternoon naps with granddaughter Paislee snuggled under his favorite blanket and playing peek-a-boo.

The family would like to send their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Stephen Jaditz and all the nurses at Allied Hospice Care with a special appreciation to Deb Budnak, Jonathan Budizak, Chris Remus and Joyce Wizda, MSW, for their exceptional care of Frank in his final days.
