Richard Louis Macialek, Sr.

Richard Louis Macialek, Sr. passed away at the Scranton Regional Hospital on Dec. 26, 2018.  He was born on June 5, 1930 in Sayre, Pa. and he was the son of the late Frank and Helen Robinson Macialek.
 He graduated in 1949 from the Tunkhannock High School.
He married the late former Mary Snyder of Sunbury, PA on June 30, 1951. Dick served in United States Marine Corp for two years as a forward observer. He recently received the Ambassador of Peace Medal from Republic of Korea for his service during the Korean Conflict.
Mary & Dick then moved to Bellefonte in 1955 to manage a Sunoco Gas Station. Richard and Mary soon started Center Penn Service where they worked until their retirement.
Richard was a board and charter member of the PA and International Portable Sanitation Associations. For their service with this organization he & Mary were recognized with the Andy Gump Award in 2002.
During the 1970’s Dick started Rich Mac Systems to manufacture and sell equipment to service portable toilets. He sold equipment to companies all over the world.
Richard served his community in a variety of ways. Dick served as a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years. He was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2001.
Dick also served as a member of the Marine Corp League and the American Legion.
After their retirement Dick and Mary moved to their farm on the Susquehanna River.
Richard was the father of Cathy (Randy) Vogelgesang of Lake Tahoe, CA, Rich of Tunkhannock.
In addition to his wife and parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, John, and George Macialek, and a son Gary Macialek.

Surviving are his grandchildren, Laura (Eric) Garfinkel of Baltimore MD, Scott Vogelgesang, of Slippery Rock PA; and numerous nieces and nephews, and his dog Daisy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunkhannock Lions Club, P.O. Box 523, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
