Rita Jane Balint, 85, of Tunkhannock passed away at Moses Taylor Hospital on September 3rd.  She was born in Mill City on Feb. 24, 1936, and she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Avery Ross.

Rita was married to John Balint for more than 60 years.  Rita was a histologist at Tyler Memorial Hospital for many years.  She enjoyed the women’s club and their theatre productions when she was younger, gardening, sewing, quilting, and counter cross stitching. She produced many fine examples of her work over the years. Her real passion was her family, especially around the holidays. Christmas was her favorite, and each year starting from 1973 she would decorate up to 100 trees with lights and spread them around the house. She would begin in October and finish putting them away in February, and inviting friends and neighbors over to visit. Mike Stevens from the Pennsylvania Road with WNEP-TV visited her twice over the years and showcased her home and the decorations on his weekly program.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister Marion Robinson and a daughter Nancy Kay Kohl and son-in-law Andrew Kohl.

She is survived by her children Linda and husband Sergi Franks, David Pomeren, and John Balint Jr., grandchildren; Adam and Zachary Balint, Abigail and Madilyn Kohl, and her niece Susan Gibbons.

A graveside service will be held Saturday Sept 11th at 12:30pm at the Sunnyside Cemetery, 152 Sunnyside Rd, Tunkhannock, PA, with pastor John Shaffer officiating.  For online condolences or directions visit. www.aplitwinfuneralhomes.com
