Ruth N. Gross, 97, a resident of Methodist Manor, Tunkhannock died at Wesley Village, Pittston on Monday 6/11/2018. Born in Philadelphia on Jan. 3, 1921; the daughter of the late Eric and Florence (Zieser) Rathey.
Ruth served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and later was employed by Standard Brands/Kraft Foods as an accountant/payroll. She enjoyed sewing and was involved in the sleeping bags for the homeless project sponsored by “My Brother’s Keeper Quilt Group” of Hop Bottom, PA. She traveled extensively with her husband Jim and she also enjoyed gardening. Ruth was a member of Elk Lake Community Church and most recently the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, two brothers Herbert and George Rathey, and a nephew Kenneth Rathey.
Surviving are her brother, Charles Rathey of Lancaster; nieces Erika Haldeman of Schwenksville, Ella Johnson of Philadelphia, Barbara Ann Van Leer of Reading, Rose Mary Sharp of Bensalem, and nephews Karl Gross of Harleysville, Kurt Gross of Abington, Konrad Gross of New Oxford, Eric Rathey of Lancaster, Edward Rathey of Brainerd Minnesota and David Rathey of St. Petersburg FL.
Graveside Service will be held Friday 6/15/2018 at 11 am at the Dimock Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Donald Drewett of the Tunkhannock Presbyterian church officiating. Arrangements by Harding-Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock PA 18657.
