Wellington “Laverne” Barber, 96, of Fleetville, died Sunday morning December 11, 2016 after a brief stay at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit. Born in Lenoxville on May 2 1920; the son of the late Wellington and Letha Robinson Barber. His wife the former Norma Stark preceded him in death, after 59 years of marriage, in 2008.

Laverne, a dairy farmer for most of his life, retiring at the age of 72, he continued to help on the family farm and did wood working well into his 90s. Laverne enjoyed life to the end, his farm, yearly airplane rides, lunch, and his dog Oscar. Special thanks to his friends at the Abington Senior Center. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Abington Manor.

Surviving is his son Greg, who lived with Laverne. His daughter Lisa Vasky, her husband Allen, and granddaughter Emma Vasky all of Fleetville. Special nephew Garry Leach of Marion Center, PA and special niece Janet Blickens and her husband George of Clarks Summit. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service will be held Wednesday Dec. 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm from the Anthony P. Litwin Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 33 Reynolds St. Factoryville. There will be no viewing hours, as per Laverne’s request, “If they can’t come see me when I’m alive, I don’t want them to come see me when I am dead”. Interment at Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock, next to the love of his life.
