William Joseph Gibbons passed away Saturday, June 9. Resident of Tunkhannock, Bill was born December 22, 1951 in Abington to the late John E. and Ruth Gibbons.
Bill attended St. Jude’s Elementary School in Mountaintop, graduating from Archbishop Wood High School. An alumnus of Bloomsburg University, Hoot was a proud member of the SOB fraternity, where he made lifelong friends and brothers.
For his entire life, Bill was an avid businessman, establishing and running his own business. Since retiring, Bill enjoyed golfing, traveling, Philadelphia sports and visiting his children.
Bill was a big man with an even bigger heart. He would wish to be remembered as a devoted husband and an incredible father. His family was the most important part of his life. He loved them unconditionally placing them before anything. Words cannot express the profound love he shared. Friends he made were friends forever. He was always extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children, Kate and John.
Throughout his life, Bill was passionate about basketball, coaching his son and teammates from Youth Basketball throughout Junior Varsity. His love for the Grateful Dead dated back to 1969, ultimately getting to share the “Dead Head” experience with his son, John, enjoying many concerts together. As a fanatical Eagles fan, he finally got to witness and celebrate with the Super Bowl win.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Susan Robinson Gibbons, daughter Kaitlyn Gibbons and son John E. Gibbons. Also sister Patricia Sauerwine (Joe), sister-in-law Jo Ellen Gibbons, nieces and nephews Amy Sanfelice (Mark), Mark Sauerwine, Casey Sauerwine, Toby Steele (Rob) and Charles Gibbons (Lisa). In addition, six great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his twin brother, Phil (Flipper) Gibbons and Margaret Gibbons, sister.
