Dorothy H. Mickley, 98, of Tunkhannock peacefully passed away at The Gardens of Scranton on Tuesday morning May 21st, 2024.  Born on March 31st, 1926, on her family farm in Eatonville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Edma Allshouse Sands.

Dorothy was a homemaker and the owner of Kordilla Beauty Salon for several years.  She served as an Auditor at the Wyoming County Courthouse.

Dorothy was an active member of her community. She was a member of the Eatonville United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 74.  She enjoyed participating in the Red Hat Society, the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Wyoming County Council of Republican Women. She loved to volunteer at the Wyoming County Historical Society and enjoyed researching the genealogy of her family and helping others to do the same.

As a young girl, Dorothy enjoyed life on the Sands dairy farm. In adulthood, she loved playing bridge with her friends, bowling, and sewing. With her husband Nick and their daughters, she enjoyed annual trips to Wildwood, NJ. In later years, she enjoyed traveling to Florida and North Carolina with her husband Carl. As a grandmother, she shared her love of baking and yard sales with her granddaughters. Dorothy will be most remembered for her fun nature and quick wit.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Carl Mickley and previous husband Nicholas Kordilla, sister Charlotte Montross Hadsall, brothers: Walter Miner, Alphie Miner, Howard Sands, Jr., Clifford Sands.

She is survived by her daughters Ella Kaufman and husband Kurt of Tunkhannock, Jill Kuffa and husband David of Tunkhannock, granddaughters: Dana Kuffa and Amanda Kaufman both of Tunkhannock, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 24th at 11am from the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock.  A viewing will be held from 10am until 11am, with interment following at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.  A donation in her honor can be made to the Eatonville United Methodist Church or the Wyoming County Historical Society.
