Harry Malcolm Layaou, Sr. passed away November 5, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Harry was born February 23, 1936, in Shavertown and lived his young life at the family farm on Coppermine Hill. He was the son of the late Francis B. and Jennie (Decker) Layaou. At the age of 16, he married the love of his life, Shirley M. Jones. They moved to Mehoopany where they made their home for 63 years.
Harry spent his life as a building contractor. He was well known for his construction expertise and masonry skills. Harry was a proud member of the masonic lodge for over 50 years. In his spare time he was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his sons, grandsons, and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his eldest son, Alan C. Layaou. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Frank, Edward, James, and Clifford and his sisters, Adeline Hess, Isabelle Lauritsen, Nancy Russo, Annette Boice and Rosemary Harvey.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his brother, Glenn C. Layaou, his sister, Margaret Goodwin, his daughters and spouses, Kathy and Ted Scouton and Angela and Andrew Brown, his daughter-in-law, Dawn Layaou, and sons, Harry Layaou, Jr., his campanion, MaryJo Moffet, and Brian K. Layaou, along with 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11 am from the Harding Litwin Funeral Home 123 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock with Pastor Lori Robinson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Vaughn Cemetery Mehoopany.
