Joan was born on January 11, 1929 in Sunbury, the daughter of Herman Boone and Margaret Greene, and grew up in Honesdale. Joan spent some time living in New York City, where she met her husband, Sidney Daniels. Joan and Sid eventually moved to Tunkhannock to raise their family. Joan was a woman of many passions. She was a self-described “foodie” who was known for her wonderful baked goods, which she sold in the 1980s at Joan’s Bakery out of her Warren Street home. Joan was a passionate lover of the arts, working for the Dietrich Theater for several years. She also played cello for the Northeastern Philharmonic. Joan’s top passion was reading and she read thousands of books in her lifetime. She was a lifelong learner who was always thinking and challenged others to do the same. Joan used this knowledge to advocate for various causes. Notably in the 1970s, she formed a committee that successfully stopped a nuclear power plant from being built in the area. Her many passions created numerous connections and friendships that spanned all over the world. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Sidney Daniels and daughter Katherine “Kitty” Owen. Joan is survived by her son David and wife Roberta of Monroe Township; son Brian and wife Kris of Glen Allen, VA; son Clifton and wife Carla of Tunkhannock; grandchildren Nathan and wife Angela, Laura, Jason and wife Lyndsay, Alyssa, Gina, Elana and husband Sung Bae, Phil, Barrett, and Jasmine; and four great grandchildren Lillian, Isaac, Grace, and Elias, who will miss their “Grandma Joanie” very much. A special thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Tamera and Rachel, for their great care. Also, many thanks to her family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers for everything they did for her over the years that allowed her to remain at home. Per Joan’s wishes, there will be no services held and we encourage you to remember her by engaging in one of your passions.
